We recently received word that there is a Haitian family of four who are asylum seekers in need of our help. A family of four from Haiti (mother, 17 y/o son, and 4 and 9 y/o daughters) are due to come to Chicago for resettlement. Catholic Charities is handling case management for them, but they are aware that St John XXIII has a Haitian population and even celebrates Mass in French. We are in the process of gathering more information regarding the details of how our parish might be able to help (for example, housing, furniture, job, translations) and how we would interface with the Archdiocese and case manager at Catholic Charities.
Our parish is in the 'space' of evangelization ... " bringing the truth about the Father who loves us all, bringing hope, creating joy, being a channel of the grace and power of God to change us and our world, opening ourselves to the Holy Spirit, and uniting ourselves with the Son Jesus Christ." This is an opportunity to do just this! Please contact Barbara Soricelli at [email protected] if you are moved to help in resettling this family. It will take a village and we can be that village!
