Congratulations to Dr. Anuj Chopra

Anuj Chopra, a middle school science teacher at Evanston’s Pope John XXIII School, has been named a finalist for the prestigious Golden Apple Award, recognizing exceptional educators across Illinois. Selected from more than 600 nominees, Chopra’s journey from a small Himalayan village in India to the classroom in Evanston reflects his lifelong dedication to education—a passion inspired by his father, also a teacher. With degrees in physics, including a Ph.D. from Germany’s Max-Planck Institute, Chopra brings both expertise and empathy to his teaching, making science accessible and engaging for all students. His principal praises his innovative, hands-on lessons and his commitment to inclusion, particularly for students with dyslexia. The award winner will be announced this spring.
